Donna Shavlik distributed an addendum to the materials that were in the Board Book. She noted that there was an area of disagreement among the members of the committee. It pertained to who will receive the feedback from the community. According to Donna, with advice from the Board Chair, only the President and the Chair of this Committee will receive the data collected and they will prepare a summary report for the Board. As a process committee, this committee will remain true to its purpose as a process committee only. Donna also informed the Board that she intends to come to Plainfield and will meet with faculty to hear their concerns about this process.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed that whereas, the Board of Trustees of Goddard College has the responsibility to select, support and assess the effectiveness of the President of the College; and
whereas, if that assessment/evaluation is to do justice to the effort and the achievement of the President and the College, the process must be a part of the total institutional assessment which includes the roles and responsibilities of every member of the community--students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and trustees; and
whereas, the Board Chair has appointed a committee to advise on process that respects the presidency and provides for input from the community to the President and the Board as one part of the total assessment for which they are responsible;
The report of the Goddard Assessment (Evaluation Process) Committee plus the Addendum be accepted by the Board and "tested" this year with the suggested packets being distributed as soon as possible following the current Board meeting;
That the Chair of the Committee and the President review the results of the community assessment and report to the Board and to the Committee on what is learned from the assessment;
That, in keeping with the role of the Assessment Committee to address process, the Committee will meet with the President to review the community evaluation process, and report back through its chair to the Board on the implementation of the process, and that report will be presented at the September 1999 Board meeting, after which time the Goddard Assessment (Evaluation Process) Committee will have completed its assignment and will be dissolved.
