3. Statement from Board

The group discussed the best timing for the release of the statement from the Board regarding Richard, and various effects the statement might have on the current situation. Specific language for the statement was discussed.

4. Faculty Issues The two Interim Academic Deans would like to see the faculty/administration/Executive [Board] Committee retreat include a large-group session and a smaller group session, with at least one Trustee in each small group. Since it won't be possible on May 3, they have recommended postponing the retreat until after graduation.

Jane reported that she had been invited to campus to talk about the recent events with faculty members. This invitation was debated at length, and the group discussed pros and cons about this type of special involvement by a Board Chair with the faculty in a time of serious conflict. Different opinions about communication with the faculty were mentioned....


6. Action

The Executive Committee agreed that Jane will create a new draft of the statement from the Board based on input from other Committee members before asking for a decision from the full Board about the statement. [emphasis mine] The statement will be released on Monday, May 6.

The Executive Committee agreed with the recommendations from the Interim Deans about postponing the retreat, and decided upon the date of June 13 (the day before the Board meeting). Committee members will make every effort to attend.

The Executive Committee agreed that it would not be appropriate for Jane to attend a meeting with the faculty at this time....
