Petition - April, 1996

In order to promote awarness of the urgent concerns of the Goddard Student Body, a collective of students have chosen to engage in a three day food strike, in which we will ingest only liquids (juice, water, tea). Our fast is a metaphorical sacrifice representing the many levels of starvation this community is experiencing. This is a nonviolent protest, which we hope will draw attention to the following:

  1. the violation of worker's rights and the ramifications of that on all strata of the college
    • the termination of faculty/staff without due process
    • the silencing of faculty/staff
    • unreasonable workload
  2. the failing communication between administration and faculty/staff/students
    • the disregard for community input and community level decision making
  3. the disempowering, non-participatory hierarchical governing structure
    • blatant hypocrisy and contradiction between the actions of the administration and the common mission
