I apologize for not sending this out sooner; neither of the people who can run labels for the off-campus programs was available last week to do so. As a result, the accompanying memo obviously didn't get out.
Since I wrote that memo, there have been some developments which I would like to share with you. Having concluded our interviews with the three internal candidates, the presidential search committee met on April 27 to decide which, if any, of the three would progress to the finalist stage. The deliberations were thoughtful, challenging, at times quite heated. At the end of the meeting, the decision was to ask Jane Sanders to come for a "campus visit" as a finalist.
As I said in the other memo, I am in the process of setting up campus visits with several external candidates. Although this could change a bit, I imagine that we will be bringing between 3 to 5 external candidates to campus. This will happen over the course of the first three weeks of May. Obviously, it is too late at this juncture for you to let me know if you are interested in coming to campus for the visit next week. However, I will be asking some campus students to make phone calls to those of you who live relatively locally, letting you know the schedule for next week as soon as it is determined. Please do let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in and might be available for upcoming campus visits and I will pass those schedules on to you as soon as I have them. Also, remember -- if you'd like a copy of the applications of the candidates who are coming to campus, you need to let me know and I will make every effort to get a copy to you in a timely manner.
Thank you for your patience with our process; it is somewhat organic and, thus, could be somewhat confusing. I trust that you will be in touch with me, or with your representative, if you have any questions or concerns.
On the flip side of this paper, I am copying a list which emerged from a discussion between the Board of Trustees and the presidential search committee in January. These are certainly some of the main criteria (understanding that they are quite broad) which we are using to evaluate applicants. I think I may have already sent this information out to you all, but if so, it can't hurt to get it again!
