GODDARD POST

PLAINFIELD - Goddard College President Gerald
Witherspoon said Friday that, contrary to rumor,
he wants to keep his job.
According to some reports, Witherspoon has been expected either to
resign or to be forced out of his post when his contract expires in
June next year.
However, he told the college Board of Trustees Friday he will be
available for a new term of office, if he is hired. The board
is holding a two-day meeting at the Plainfield campus.
Today, the trustees will name a subcommittee to evaluate Witherspoon's
performance in the office, which is expected to report and make a
recommendation this fall on whether he should be rehired.
Spokesman for the college, Benjamin Collins, said the composition
of the subcommitte is uncertain, as there is some contention as to
who should sit on it.
Also at Friday's session, Witherspoon, a former state tax commissioner,
reported a $4.1 million balanced budget.
