GODDARD COLLEGE PRESIDENT NAMED

PLAINFIELD -- Trustees at Goddard College have selected the acting president
of the school, John Hall, as the next president.
A small group of students on Friday objected to the selection, which was
made Friday but not officially announced.
Board Chairman Peter Pratt said the decision was "irreversible".
The board, in naming Hall, rejected recommendations of a presidential search
committe, composed of representatives of various segments of the college
community.
Hall has been acting president since November. During his time in office
the college has cut 24 full or part-times members from its faculty and
reduced employment in other areas in an economy move.
John Warshow, one of the students objecting to Hall's appointment, said,
"The school is more and more sacrificing its ideals in order to keep its
head above water. It's becoming a business venture."
