GOODARD COLLEGE GETS REPRIEVE FROM TRUSTEES
PLAINFIELD - Goddard College trustees gave the financially ailing school's
administration a vote of confidence Sunday to continue ecnomic and educational
reorganization efforts, Goddard fund-raiser Steven McArthur said.
The experimental and liberal arts college has been on shaky financial footing
for the last few years, and has contemplated shutting down.
The trustees said they support the reorganization plan developed by interim
acting Dean Jack Linquist, McArthur said. The administration also should
fight to maintain the college's accreditation, McArthur said the trustees
decided. The school's rating has been in jeopardy.
Goddard laid off 13 employees in early March. McArthur said, though, his
development and fund-raising office will get a second worker. No major
financial commitments have been made, he said, but he is working on some.
Goddard officials may hold a news conference today, McArthur said.
