GODDARD SHOWS A SMALL SURPLUS

PLAINFIELD - Goddard College passed an important milestone this week in its comeback from near bankruptcy in 1980, according to spokesman Wallace Roberts.

Because of the steady rise in enrollment, the college has been able to pay off several hundred thousand dollars worth of short term debts and, for the first time in 11 years, the college ended its fiscal year with a surplus of $28,000, according to Roberts.

Two-hundred-fifty students are enrolled for the spring semester, an increase of 29 students over last fall, said Roberts.

Greg Dunkling, acting director of admissions, said the college has enrolled 52 on-campus and 99 off-campus undergraduate students, as well as 99 graduate students, for the spring term.

Dunkling attributed the growth, most of which came in the off-campus programs, to intensified recruitment efforts by the admissions staff and several faculty members.

Goddard wants to reach a maximum enrollment of 300 or 350, Dunkling noted.
