GODDARD NEARS END OF SEARCH FOR PRESIDENT

The Associated Press

PLAINFIELD -- The list of candidates to become Goddard College president has been narrowed from 85 to five, with a new top administrator expected to be named by the end of the month, according to college officials.

Over the last few weeks, final candidates have been streaming onto the rural Plainfield campus for two days of interviews with faculty, staff, administrators and students.

None of the final five candidates is a Goddard College graduate or lives in Vermont. All represent progressive institutions of higher education from around the country, "which is exactly what I had hoped for," search committee member Joshua Lichterman said.

'I felt it was important to get out of the ' traditional Goddard community in looking for a candidate. Goddard has in the last 20 years become increasingly insulated from the rest of the world.'
