GODDARD COLLEGE NAMES PRESIDENT

The Associated Press

PLAINFIELD -- Dr, Jackson Kytle of Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio, is the new president of Goddard College in Plainfield.

Kytle, who will start July 1, is the provost for the school of adult and experiential learning and vice president for academic planning at Antioch.

He has held a number of positions at Antioch since 1976, acting Goddard president Beth Warrell said.

The new president graduated in 1963 from Middlebury College with a degree in English literature. He holds a master's degree and a doctorate in social psychology from Columbia University.

Kytle, who is married and has two children, will assume his position at a time when the alternative liberal arts college is facing turbulent financial times that delayed paychecks and this week prompted a round of layoffs.

He will replace Jack Lindquist, president of college for 10 years, who was given a paid sabbatical nine months before his official contract was to expire.

"He brings lots of expertise in managing colleges," Warrell said of Kytle.

Warrell, a college trustee, said she would begin to look for another job.

During a recent visit to Goddard, Kytle said, "Goddard and Antioch share a philosophy of education that emphasizes individually planned education and learning through hands-on experience."

Warrell said Kytle's salary would be announced today.
