PRESIDENT THWARTING GODDARD'S MISSION

Editor, Times Argus:

I have been following with interest the recent protest at Goddard College. I find a description of President Greene as "largely unaffected" by the current hunger strike of staff and students at Goddard appalling. It is quite revealing of President Greene's management style that he would proceed "unaffected" in the face of such desperate measures to awaken him to his constituencies' unhappiness with his decisions and lack of collaborative process.

In an institution whose mission stress educating students in the democratic process, President Greene's actions and attitudes unfortunately give us a prime example of that mission's antithesis. One can only hope that members of Goddard's Board of Trustees will respond in a more thoughtful and humane way and really listen to the community, as befits the history and philosophy of the college.
