GODDARD NARROWS SEARCH FOR PRESIDENT

Jane Sanders Among Candidates

PlAINFIELD - The search for a president for Goddard College is down to 14 candidates, including three with ties to the school.

A 10-person search committee made up of faculty, students, staff and members of the college's board of trustees has been looking for someone to replace Richard Greene since October.

Greene resigned in August after months of intense criticism about his management style. Jane Sanders, the former board chairwoman and the college's provost, has essentially run the college since Greene departed.

Sanders is one of the people the search committee is considering for the president's job. The committee is also considering Richard Schramm, a faculty member, and an unidentified member of the college's board of trustees.

In addition to the three inside candidates, there are 11 outsiders in the running for the post.

"They are an incredibly strong pool," said Chandra Napora, the chairman of the search committee "I couldn't be more pleased with the progression of the search."

The search committee stopped taking applications at the end of March, Napora said. Goddard received about 60 applications for the position.

Since then, the committee has conducted preliminary interviews with some of the inside candidates, Napora said.

"Now we're trying to decide who to bring to campus," Napora said.

The search committed plans to interview candidates during the first two full weeks of May, and the board expects to name a president June 15.

None of the inside candidates has emerged as the favorite for the job.

Faculty member Kiko Nobusawa said a lot of students seem to favor Sanders, while the faculty tends to favor Schramm.
